Thank you for taking the time to visit my website, my name is Jeff, and I am a full-time wedding photographer based in Surrey. I am fully qualified with the Guild of Wedding Photographers and I am certified with The Photographer Academy. I have won multiple prestigious national awards and I currently hold QGWP and CPA distinctions in wedding photography.
From an early age, I had a very strong interest in photography and as a young boy I always used to carry my parents’ 110 film format camera around school and everywhere I went, taking photographs of everyone and everything. I grew up in Northamptonshire using 35mm film cameras and graduated from the University of Leicester with a BSc (Hons). By this time I was starting to embrace the modern age of photography, turning to digital DSLRs and since graduation, I moved to and settled in Surrey.
Before starting my wedding photography career, I was employed in the IT sector for about 10 years, so I am highly computer-literate with a solid technological background which helps a lot with Photoshop, post-processing and all other similar aspects.
After photographing a couple of weddings for friends, and realising just how much I love the buzz, energy and excitement, I enrolled on a specialist course in wedding photography and qualified top of my class with a Grade 1 Diploma, earning one of the highest marks in the history of the course. On average, less than 10% of students achieve this highest grade. I then founded Jeff Sham Photography, providing my unique style of wedding photography to many happy couples.
I joined the professional Guild of Wedding Photographers and after just one year, I achieved a Qualified status with the Guild, gaining a QGWP distinction after submitting a panel of my work for judging. Qualified members are those who have evidenced their capability to deliver a good quality professional service to members of the public and are fully insured. This is seen as the minimum level of acceptability one should expect from a professional photographer.
Along the way, I have won numerous national awards for my photography, which is judged to be at a consistent Bronze Bar national level, signifying “images that are above the norm, displaying a mixture of skill combined with imagination and the capture of emotion or mood”.
In 2013, I earned a Certified status with a CPA distinction with The Photographer Academy, following the submission of a panel of nearly 100 images for judging. Those that are Certified displays the understanding and application of the key image components of composition, lighting, exposure, pose, style, story telling and post production to the overall submission, showing a skill level that is beyond basic competence of photography skills, with a professional bias. With such a large panel of images required for each submission in order to satisfy the judging panel of consistency, skill and competence, becoming Certified is a huge achievement, and many submissions fail to meet the stringent quality required.
In 2016, I was featured by Hen Heaven magazine in a list of the best wedding photographers in the UK. In the same year, I was nominated for and shortlisted into the finals of the very well respected Guides For Brides industry awards.
My style of wedding photography blends together a mix of traditional formal, contemporary natural and candid/reportage photography to provide the very best coverage of your day. I hope you can see how well these elements work together when viewing images from my previous weddings. I have been noted to have a very calm, courteous and friendly manner, and I let the day flow as much as I can without being bossy or intrusive, quietly capturing the day with little interference.
As well as the obvious duties of taking the photographs on the day, I offer a very comprehensive overall service, spending hours with my couples before and after the day, wedding planning to intricate levels of detail, and designing beautiful wedding albums afterwards. On the day I am often the acting wedding co-ordinator, and I have received many comments on how valuable I was prior to and during the wedding day.
If you’re looking for a friendly yet professional and hard-working wedding photographer, then contact me today to see how I can help – I look forward to hearing from you!
I live with my wife Sarah and cat Melo, in Oxted, Surrey, having got married in the Spring of 2015. Outside of wedding photography, I love to travel and I am a keen badminton player, acting as captain and competing in teams for my racket club in Epsom in the Surrey district and county leagues. I also play tennis regularly with at my local club. I am a huge New York Knicks basketball fan and a lover of coffee!
